Do you like spring? When I'm asked, I always say that my favourite season is summer, I absolutely love the sun and the heat...but truth be told, there's something extra joyful and special about spring with its beautiful colours in the awakening outdoors. I've started thinking of spring as my 'saviour season', want to know why? Because in the UK, autumn and winter are usually very grey and rainy (and long!), by the time spring arrives, I don't even realise but I'm in a sad state, both with my skin and my mood. I only realise when the sun comes out, just how miserable I'd been feeling before!
The only thing I noticed helps, is using a mix of pastels and bright colours in my home. Funnily, when we started decorating our home during Covid, my husband and I both liked navy blue. We painted our stairs and hallway in the darkest blue we found, and as soon as we finished it, regret struck me. I had the same feeling, when I painted my bedroom furniture 'dusky pink'. It was a lovely heritage paint and I loved the look of it in other people's homes, but as soon as I finished the furniture upcycling, although it looked good, I felt sad.
Today, I know that it's because I'm not a winter or autumn personality, and those colours don't make my heart sing. I prefer spring and summer colours, and so my interior must reflect this for me to feel at home in it.
This is why, just like in clothes, it's important to make conscious choices of colour, rather than copy someone else's style just because it's trendy, or because it's made by a celebrated designer. That designer we read about in an interior book or magazine, may only use muted colours, may transform your room into an interior success, and you may still hate it!
So without further ado, here are some spring inspired interior shots to kick start your decorating mojo! If you would like me to help create a moodboard with any of my fabrics or wallpapers, don't hesitate to ask, I'm always happy to help!
